Aikido Yoshinkan in Israel - All you want to know about aikido in israel.
Aikido is a martial art established in the 20th century by Morihei Ueshiba. Ueshiba Sensei developed this new form from the art of Daito Ryo (a type of Jujitsu) and Ragyu (a sword art form). He combined them both with the principle of Ki or universal energy.
The unique technique of Aikido uses the throws and locks of Daito Ryo, the centered and sharp techniques of the sword and the energy or Ki, which when applied by the opponent is immediately turned around and used to throw him.
Yoshinkan Aikido is a style of Aikido, which was developed by Gozo Shioda. Gozo Shioda practiced Aikido for 7 years in the 1930's as an Uchideshi (live in student) of Ueshiba Sensei. Later in the 1950's, he independently started teaching his own form of Aikido, known as the "hard style", for its practical application of the techniques and concentration on the basics of Aikido.
The Aikido Yoshinkan Israel Dojo was established in 1994 by Sensei Gadi Shorr. Gadi Sensei currently holds the rank of 5th Dan and is a former member and foreign instructor of the Honbu Dojo (Head Dojo), Tokyo, Japan. He was also one of the instructors for the Yoshinkan Aikido Instructor's Course held annually at the Honbu Dojo.
Most of the Sensei in our network of dojos around Israel have at one time been members of the Honbu Dojo. They have all trained and graduated from the Instructors Course and have all attained rankings between 2nd Dan and 5th Dan.
